You must know certain terms about container tracking, shipping, logistic transportation, and couriers. The courier tracking agent may name these shipping terms and if you are not aware of those terms, you may face any issue. However, these terms are simple and easy to understand. I am listing some of the terms.
Shipping Terms You Must Know
Here are some of the common but typical terms.
1. Loading Port
It is the port for the delivery of the goods. The workers load the shipment onto the vessel for carriage and transportation to the destination far away.
2. Vessel
It is a large watercraft that helps in the transportation of goods, containers, and passengers across the oceans.
3. Delivery Place
It shows any of the places to deliver the shipment or parcel. The employees at the shipping yard transport goods to this destination over time.
4. Place of Receipt
As the name shows, this is where delivery of any of the goods reaches over time. It is mostly located on the port (sea or dry port).
5. Place of Discharge
It is the place where goods are discharged from the vessels to the port for further delivery and transportation. Here, the port employees help load and unload the Goods.
6. Awaiting Shipment
If your courier status shows “Awaiting Shipment or Delayed Shipment”, it means your shipment is ready but the carrier hasn’t picked it up. He may have missed it.
7. Domestic Shipment
Shipment of the goods and logistics within the country to different destinations.
8. Pre-Shipment
Pre-shipment or Pre-Packing is the state in the shipment of goods, ready to pack and ship.
9. Joint Shipment
This term is for the logistics company. For a particular city, they may combine the goods and transport them in the same container.
10. Blind Shipment
For some goods, the seller or the distributor may hide the identity of the shipping goods from the company. Such a shipment is called a blind shipment.
11. LCL Shipment
LCL stands for Less than Container Load in the shipping terms. if your goods are not a full container and you are shipping them to a destination, it is called LCL Shipping.
12 Shipment Manifest
It is the list of all the items that are allowed to be shipped through a particular courier tracking service like; DP World Container Tracking, JRS Express Tracking, and Shree Maruti Courier. The shipper uses this list to verify whether any goods are on the list or not. Prohibited items are not shipped. The manifest must list the items, their specifications, quality, weight, and the price of the transportation to a particular destination.
13. Shipment Tendered
It is a common practice. Usually, any shipper issues a tender to the potential supplier for the transportation of the goods. The logistics involve a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) for shipment tender.
14. Freight Shipment
It shows the shipment process involving the shipping terms of goods by sea, air, or land.
15. US COGSA
It is the act of the USA Cogsa about the goods transportation and logistic shipment. It means the United States Carriage of Goods by Sea Act, 1936
16. TEUs
Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units – It is a measure of the volume of a shipping product. It measures volume in a twenty-foot-long container. A large container can ship 18,000 TEUs per time.
